PRESS COUNCIL OF INDIA
The Press Council of India is a statutory, quasi-judicial authority mandated by the Parliament to preserve the freedom of the press and maintain and improve the standards of newspapers and the news agencies in India. The mandate is executed through quasi-judicial authority over the authorities as well as the press persons.
In advisory capacity the Council provides the government and other authorities with its view on many issues. The regulatory and guiding functions and discharged through studies reports on important issues, which have nexus with the preservation of the freedom of the Press and maintenance of its standards.
